This is a very positive result for the optimization of French public research From July 1, 2007 to 30 June 2008 , the CNRS published 284 patents, as owner or co-owner, of which 116, or 41%, have already been commercialized. They should be added to the 3,200 patents already held by the research organization. Indeed, next year's harvest is expected to reap even more, with a number of published patents that will probably exceed 350. "These figures clearly show that CNRS researchers have taken on board the economic aspect of their discoveries," they pointed out at the CNRS.
The following about the recently published figures should be underscored: -104 patent licenses, mostly for older patents, were signed with businesses - 41 businesses were set up with the help of CNRS laboratories and their partners or on the basis of the results obtained in the laboratories -1690 research contracts were signed with industry, i.e., an average of two per laboratory for a total 70.4 million euros -Roughly 35% of the contracts are managed by CNRS - 456 contracts contracts were signed within the framework of competitive clusters, for a total 63.1 million euros - 42 operations for developing ideas into products were carried out in 33 CNRS or associated laboratories.
