The partnership to develop biomass power plants across India, producing a total output of 100MW, comes as part of AREVA's strategy to strengthen its supply on the renewable energy market, with a focus on India and Southeast Asia. Under the terms of the agreement, AREVA's Bionergy Unit in Chennai will be in charge of plant design, construction and commissioning. The Group will also co-invest in the projects alongside Astonfield Renewable Resources.
Work on the first plant is scheduled to begin during the last quarter of 2009 in the state of West Bengal. AREVA currently has 100 bioenergy plants in operation or under construction.
