The Brittany Region, Ile-et-Vilaine département, Rennes, Europe (FEDER), the French National Research Agency (ANR) and the French Ministry for Research and Higher Education co-financed Neurinfo, the new generation MRI platform, which was set up on the Villjean campus in Rennes and inaugurated last autumn. Rennes1 University, INSERM and INRIA are backing the research and the Rennes University Hospital partnered with the Regional Eugène Marquis Cancer Center are backing the clinical activities of the platform that will be studying how the normal and pathological brain works.
Neurinfo's original feature lies in combining research and clinical aspects as it is set up in a hospital environment. "It can integrate all the aspects of data processing, from acquisition to database management," explained Christian Barillot, Visages research team Director and member of the Platform Board of Administrators. He went on to say that, thanks to Neurinfo, more precise protocols will be developed and will better target patients, to meet clinical needs and fine-tune diagnostics and the therapeutical approach.
INRIA will be focusing on improving the Neurinfo data processing chain and transferring innovative image acquisition and exploitation tools and database management tools. The advances should provide clearer insights into drug effects on the evolutive course of brain lesions, as in the case of Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson's disease. Neurinfo has set a bold goal of becoming a center of excellence in medical imaging and neuroimaging in clinical research, in 2015.
