Thousands of collisions between industrial machines and pedestrians occur every year in Europe. The consequences are often serious, sometimes even fatal. Until now, market solutions have been imperfect answers to the problem as they do not make the difference between a pedestrian, or another type of obstacle. Accordingly, ARcure, a 2009 CEA LIST startup, decided to tackle the issue by offering an onboard vision system called Blaxtair, which can provide an efficient answer to collisions between machines and pedestrians. Deploying detection and recognition algorithms from research at CEA LIST, the specialist of image processing for onboard vision systems, the system can produce a fine analysis of the image to recognize the type of obstacle and warn the driver.
ARcure has been granted an exclusive licensing agreement with the CEA for the exploitation of the algorithms. The startup has set a goal of becoming the world leader in onboard vision for industry. Blaxtair has advantages for the building and public works industry, logistics, mining and forestry. Riding on the momentum of the innovation, CEA and ARcure have decided to create a joint laboratory. Consequently, the startup will be able to draw on CEA LIST skills and expertise in onboard vision. This is a major asset for ARcure in a fast-growing competitive field where maintaining innovative capacity to generate new industrial solutions and ensure corporate durability is critical.
